Syracuse University has 10 Full Ride Scholarships for African American Men and Women Interested in Studying Architecture


Mark Robbins, Dean of Syracuse  University's School of Architecture is desperately seeking young men and women of color interested in pursuing a five year professional degree in Architecture.  He says he's deeply committed to bringing diversity to his field and has scholarship money set aside to fully cover educational costs for 10 students. Hispanic enrollment in the school has increased substantially, but it's been harder to attract Black students.  These scholarships will be awarded based on academic criteria and portfolio submission.  Syracuse University's School of Architecture has a great reputation.  This is a terrific opportunity!

The Illinois Humanities Council (IHC) is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications for The Odyssey Project, a free, eight-month college humanities course for adults living on low incomes. Classes will begin in mid-September at Donoghue School on the south side of Chicago and at the Howard Area Community Center in Rogers Park on the north side of Chicago.

The Odyssey Project requires that applicants be at least 18 years old, live in a household with income at or below 150% of the Federal poverty level, and be able to read a newspaper in English. Tuition, books, on-site baby-sitting, and bus cards are free. Bard College grants a certificate of achievement to any student who completes the course and awards six transferable college credit hours to those who complete it at a high level of achievement. There is a correlation between prostitution and drug possession and sell, theft, robbery and even murder. Our safety is at stake!

Did you know that other communities initiated a prolonged campaign to reduce prostitution in their neighborhood, and as a consequence, prostitution in the Roseland area was reduced to one-third of its former level, and that a substantial number of these women have moved their operation to the Washington Park neighborhood ????
DID YOU KNOW THAT East 50th Street between Indiana Avenue and Champaign Avenue is one of the three primary areas for prostitution??????

JULY 4TH IS THE BUSIEST WEEKEND FOR PROSTITUION AND UNLESS WE ARE VIGILANT IN CALLING THE POLICE AND REPORTING THIS ACTIVITY OUR COMMUNITY WILL BE UNDER SIEGE
PROSTITUTES NEED CUSTOMERS TO FIND THEM AND WILL INCREASE THEIR CONCENTRATION IN OUR AREA, CONSEQUENTLY ALL FEMALES IN THE AREA, YOUR WIFE, DAUGHTER, NIECES AND FRIENDS, ARE AT RISK FOR SOLICITATION.

Statistics show that a prostitute is arrested only once for every 425 tricks that she turns

Students come from various countries from around the world!  Placements will need to be made by June 30, 2008 for the upcoming school year.  Organizations are encouraged to share this announcement with their member.  Places of worship are also great resources for host families. Please help us to place a student in a great home! This is a wonderful opportunity for our family to learn about a different culture, and even learn a different language!  If you or someone you know is interested in hosting a student, please contact Chicago Area PAX Exchange Student Coordinator, Ms. Wright via email info@ajwright.com and put in PAX in the subject line.

The festival will take place on the blocks of State Street between 47th and 51st streets on Saturday, July 26th and Sunday, July 27th beginning at noon.
 
The following volunteer meetings will be held at the Charles Hayes Center (4859 S. Wabash) at 6:00pm:
 
May 14th and 28th
June 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th
July 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, with a wrap-up meeting on July 30th.

Washington Park stretching east-west from Cottage Grove Avenue to the Dan Ryan Expressway,
and north-south from 63rd Street to 51st.  Half of the neighborhood's lots are vacant,
reflecting the fact that Washington Park is one of the poorest in Chicago,
with a median household income of only $15,000 a year, although there has
recently been a surge in gut rehab and new construction condominiums,
signaling the fact that the neighborhood is amidst change.
