Denzel Washington Makes Contribution Toward Troop Recovery

Don't know whether you heard about this
but Denzel Washington and his family visited
the troops at   Brook   Army Medical Center , in
San Antonio , Texas (BAMC) the other day. This
is where soldiers who have been evacuated from
Germany come to be hospitalized in the United
States, especially burn victims There are some
buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher
House is a Hotel where soldiers' families can stay,
for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying
on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled
most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave
him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build.
He took his cheque book out and wrote a cheque for the full amount right there
on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear
this story and want to get the word out to the American
public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it.

The question is - why do:
Britney spears, Madonna , Tom Cruise and other Hollywood fluff
make front page news with their ridiculous
antics and Denzel Washington's charity
doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of
any newspaper except the Local newspaper in San
Antonio.

Harvard Offers Free Tutition

Harvard University FREE for qualified students from low-income families

Harvard University has announced that undergraduate students from low-income families will pay no tuition. In making the announcement, former Harvard president Lawrence H. Summers said, "When only ten percent of the students in elite higher education come from families in the lower half of the income distribution, we are not doing enough. We are not doing enough in bringing elite higher education to the lower half of the income distribution."

If you know of a family earning less than $60,000 a year with an honor student graduating from high school soon, Harvard University wants to pay the tuition. The prestigious university recently announced that undergraduate students from low-income families can go to Harvard for free... no tuition and no student loans!

OUR NEIGHBORHOOD IS FASTLY GROWING INTO THE MOST MAJOR PROSTITUTION AREA IN THE CITY
There is a correlation between prostitution and drug possession and sell, theft, robbery and even murder. Our safety is at stake!

Did you know that other communities initiated a prolonged campaign to reduce prostitution in their neighborhood, and as a consequence, prostitution in the Roseland area was reduced to one-third of its former level, and that a substantial number of these women have moved their operation to the Washington Park neighborhood ????
DID YOU KNOW THAT East 50th Street between Indiana Avenue and Champaign Avenue is one of the three primary areas for prostitution??????

JULY 4TH IS THE BUSIEST WEEKEND FOR PROSTITUION AND UNLESS WE ARE VIGILANT IN CALLING THE POLICE AND REPORTING THIS ACTIVITY OUR COMMUNITY WILL BE UNDER SIEGE
PROSTITUTES NEED CUSTOMERS TO FIND THEM AND WILL INCREASE THEIR CONCENTRATION IN OUR AREA, CONSEQUENTLY ALL FEMALES IN THE AREA, YOUR WIFE, DAUGHTER, NIECES AND FRIENDS, ARE AT RISK FOR SOLICITATION.

Host Families Needed for Foreign Students Exchange Program

PAX Foreign Student Exchange Program is looking for host families for foreign exchange students for the school year 2008-09. Host families help exchange students attend area high schools and learn about diverse cultures and experiences. Students come from various countries from around the world! Placements will need to be made by June 30, 2008 for the upcoming school year. Organizations are encouraged to share this announcement with their member. Places of worship are also great resources for host families. Please help us to place a student in a great home! This is a wonderful opportunity for our family to learn about a different culture, and even learn a different language! The Washington Park Community is serviced by two newly elected Aldermen: Pat Dowell, 3rd Ward Alderman, and Willie Cochran, 20th Ward Alderman. We have listed their office addresses and phone numbers below for your information. Please get to know each of them by attending town-hall meetings and participating in Ward sponsored events. Remember, an informed community is an effective community. Let's work with our aldermen to make our communities better! Please call your alderman's office first to see if and when the office will be opened. There are a lot of community events that are going on that may take their duties and staff into the community; and that includes meeting us where we live! If we all work together we will have positive change in our community! Volunteer to help in your community, and let's get our children involved. Washington Park is on the South Side of Chicago. It includes the park named
Washington Park stretching east-west from Cottage Grove Avenue to the Dan Ryan Expressway,
and north-south from 63rd Street to 51st. Half of the neighborhood's lots are vacant,
reflecting the fact that Washington Park is one of the poorest in Chicago,
with a median household income of only $15,000 a year, although there has
recently been a surge in gut rehab and new construction condominiums,
signaling the fact that the neighborhood is amidst change.
